I believe the stock regulator settings on the Avenger are actually unusually high. If it does, you can adjust the setting as above and try again. Of course, you can leave your settings alone and first see if the slug gets stuck. This is to ensure that a slugs does not get stuck, when it is over groove diameter at the breech, and there is added static friction from the lapping grit. Open any transfer port restriction setting. Set the regulator pressure high and the hammer preload up, to be sure the hammer strike opens the valve properly. When using slugs that are over groove diameter to fire-lap first fill the air tank on the gun to at least 3000 PSI (or near max allowable fill pressure for that airgun). If no such slugs are at hand, then use tight fitting pellets or order appropriate slugs. Providing they are just larger than groove diameter at the breech.
